When designing industrial networks, it often becomes necessary to connect segments in which different types of data transmission media are used. Often there is a need to connect two devices with different interfaces, for example, RS-232 and RS-485, or to extend the interface. Industrial optical media converters are used to convert one type of signal into another. As a rule, such devices have two types of interface: optical and copper.
Some of them can transform not only the type of environment, but also the data transfer rate. Some devices support other functions, for example, notification of the absence of a link on the second side.
